Robert Saleh, Klay Kubiak preview 49ers-Saints Week 2 matchup
“San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak addressed reporters following Thursday’s practice as the team prepares for its Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Here’s everything they said.”
How 49ers QB Mac Jones is helping Kendrick Bourne get reacclimated with team ““I don’t think it’s too much to ask,” said Bourne, a wide receiver who enters his ninth NFL season. “But it’s all
up to me. It falls on me. So if I go out there and I don’t know what I’m doing, it’s because I didn’t study enough. I’ve been just attacking it this week and I’m excited to see what happens.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but I’m excited to see what’s going to happen.”
49ers feel fortunate to have Mac Jones amid yet another game of Whac-A-Mole (paywall)
“I like Mac a lot,” Bosa said. “Great dude. I think he’s really popped up on tape throughout camp. If Mac does start, I think it’s a little more advantageous for him being early in the year since he’s gotten some real reps recently, and he’s not like 10 weeks into the season, taking only scout team and getting pinballed around by the D-line and scout team. I think that’s a bright side.”
Can 49ers’ new kicker Eddy Pineiro restore calm to turbulent spot? ‘He’s a performer’ (paywall)
“By nature, I think he’s a performer,” said Morstead, whose kicking coach has also worked extensively with Pineiro. “He likes the lights. He likes the show and the big stage.”
Reunited on 49ers, Kendrick Bourne and Mac Jones look to go back to the future (paywall)
“It always takes time,” Shanahan said. “I know he’s been here, but that’s five years ago or whatever it is. He’s been in a lot of different stuff and we’ve changed a lot of stuff. … We hope to ease him in and put him in there when it’s totally the right time. We’ll see if we have that option.”
Bourne has leaned on Jones to help him reacclimate. They haven’t hesitated to study together and compare notes, just like old times, but minus the baggage that spelled the end of their time in New England.
“He definitely took that adversity on the chin, and just to see him here and the joy he has, I’m excited about it,” Bourne said of Jones.
