What is the story about?
Since
we have a couple of days between games and I think we could all use a break from the usual stuff, here’s some stats that I found interesting when looking at Syracuse’s pages at BartTorvik and SportsReference:
- Tyler Betsey is shooting 34% from 3 (21-61) but only 26.7% on close 2’s (4-15)
- Betsey is the only Syracuse player shooting about 50% on Far 2’s (shots outside of the restricted area). He’s 10-18 for 55.6%.
- As a team, the Orange are shooting 36% on far 2s and and 31.5% from 3. Expect a lot of future opponents to try and go zone and dare Syracuse to make shots.
- Betsey and Nate Kingz have each attempted more three-pointers than they have two-pointers and free throws. Betsey has taken 61 3s, 33 2s and 27 free throws. Kingz has taken 72 3s, 51 2s ad 20 free throws
- Last year the Orange had 56 dunks as a team. So far this season, William Kyle and Sadiq White have combined for 48 of the team’s 64.
- Syracuse is 2nd in the nation in blocks per game (7.1) and opponents are shooting 43.6% against the Orange, which is 12th lowest in the country
- Kyle leads the ACC in blocks with 46
When you get stat projections over 40 minutes or per 100 possessions, you can get some wild numbers, so here are some I found interesting:
- It’s a limited sample, but per 40 minutes Donnie Freeman is averaging 27.3 points per game
- Per 100 possessions, Freeman is averaging 40 points, 13.5 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 18 free throw attempts
- Kyle and Freeman have the highest offensive rating among the players in the rotation.
- Akir Souare is fouling at a rate of 13.2 fouls per 100 possessions, or 9 fouls per 40 minutes.
- Through the first two games of ACC play, Syracuse is shooting 78.2% from the foul line, which is 3rd best in the league.
Anyone found any random or interesting stats regarding the Orange?
