As riots and protests continue in Paris ahead of the Week 7 matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints, the NFL has cancelled a Steelers fan event in the city.
“Following recent events in the Bastille neighborhood, and after careful consideration, we felt it appropriate not to move forward with the planned Steelers House fan event in Paris,” a statement from the NFL reads. “Preparations for Sunday’s NFL Paris game at State de France continue as planned, with the NFL working closely
with local authorities and partners on all operational and security matters…”
Civil unrest in Paris stems from a range of issues, including conditions of schools, cost of living, and the state of French politics as a whole. Many wondered if the game would be moved due to the many protests in the city, but the NFL moved ahead with the game with added security.
