Florida State and Wake Forest will face off tonight in an ACC matchup featuring two programs heading in opposite directions. Kickoff at Doak Campbell Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and estimates that
suggest an 80% capacity crowd may be overly optimistic. As of now, excellent sideline seats can be found on secondary market sites for around $18 each.
The Demon Deacons (5-2, 2-2 ACC) have won three straight games, including last week’s victory over SMU on a 50-yard field goal on the game’s final play. The Wake Forest defense held SMU to just 246 yards of offense, forced three turnovers, and allowed only eight first downs in their win.
Wake Forest also came close to handing undefeated Georgia Tech their first loss of the season. A blatant offside penalty against Georgia Tech, missed by the ACC referees late in the fourth quarter, likely cost Wake Forest the game. The ACC subsequently confirmed the missed call, stating that the Tech defender should have been penalized for being in the neutral zone before the snap.
The Seminoles (3-4, 0-4 ACC) are coming off their last bye week of the season after being upset by 17.5-point underdog Stanford, marking their fourth consecutive loss, all against ACC opponents. After starting the season 3-0, including a top-10 win over Alabama in Week 1, the Seminoles are still seeking their first ACC win of the season.
The Seminoles hope to end their four-game losing streak tonight against the Deacs, who have a 2-1 record against Mike Norvell during his FSU tenure. During this losing stretch, the Seminoles have managed only one touchdown in the first quarter.
A loss for FSU tonight would extend their ACC losing streak to ten games, with their last win in the conference occurring over 13 months ago (406 days). This would also bring their record to 1-11 in their last 12 ACC games. Furthermore, a defeat would result in a second consecutive year with a minimum five-game losing streak under Head Coach Mike Norvell.
According to FanDuel, Florida State is a 10.5-point favorite, with the over/under set at 51.5 points. Notably, FSU opened as an 8.5-point favorite, but the line has shifted to 10.5 in recent days. Why might that be?
