Good morning A’s fans!
Award season continued last night as the Managers of the Year were announced in both leagues. In the National League the winner was the Milwaukee Brewers’ skipper Pat Murphy, who
guided the Brew Crew to the #1 seed in the National League with a 97-65 record. He also guided them to their third straight NL Central crown in what was just his second season as Milwaukee’s skipper. He also became well-known for his odd habit of having food in his pockets during games, the most famous of which would become a food item at Brewers home games. Love it. And most of the writers agreed:
Dallas approved of the selection as well:
Over in the American League however A’s fans will recognize beloved former catcher Stephen Vogt, who like Murphy won his second straight Manager of the Year award. And like Murphy, he’s in just his second season leading the dugout in Cleveland.
Vogt’s win was a lot closer than Murphy’s over in the National League. While the Brewers had the consensus over in the NL, the race for MOTY in the AL was a lot closer:
It was a tough call but you just gotta give it to Vogt after he guided the Guardians to an epic late-season comeback to win their division. They had a lot of help from the Detroit Tigers imploding but they’re not taking the AL Central without Vogtey leading the dugout. The Guardians ended the season a lot earlier than they probably hoped for after getting knocked out in the first round of the playoffs, but that massive comeback was the exclamation point on Cleveland’s 88-win season.
Oh, and you know Dallas loved this one too….
It’s awesome to see one of the best Athletics in recent history thriving as the manager. We always knew he’d be great in that role and this is no surprise to any A’s fans. Congrats Stephen!
And have an excellent Wednesday everyone!
