Hindsight is always 20/20.
Mike LaFleur made the decision to not only play Jeremiyah Love during their preseason game against the Raiders, but he decided to give him 14 touches in a game that does not matter. Now, Love is expected to miss some time (maybe into the regular season) with an ankle injury.
Now to be fair to LaFleur, if Love came out of that game clean, then the conversation would just end there.
“Hey, you got away with it this time, but don’t push Love like that in a preseason game again.”
But that’s not what happened. The team’s third-overall selection was supposed to drive this team in year one under LaFleur. Now, he has a high-ankle sprain which isn’t a simple ailment. These can take well over a month to heal from as it’s more severe than a what we’d consider a normal ankle sprain.
But is this just a pile-up on LaFleur because he rolled the dice and lost? Does he deserve as much flack as he is receiving? Is it the process more than the result?
