Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of Newcastle defender Tino Livramento, with early discussions already taking place over a potential summer move from Tyneside to London.
According to FootballTransfers, Arsenal has Livramento as a key target for the summer transfer window as they want to bolster their full-back rotation, particularly with Ben White’s future under uncertainty.
“FootballTransfers understands that Arsenal have held positive discussions with the representatives of Newcastle right-back
Tino Livramento,” the report states. “Sources close to the situation have informed us that ‘in-depth’ discussions over personal terms have taken place.”
The reported talks are described as encouraging for Arsenal, with indications that Livramento could be open to the move. Personal contract terms, as is usually the case when players move to bigger clubs, are not expected to be a major obstacle if the Gunners decide to go all in for the England international.
The bigger issue for Arsenal lies with Newcastle and their valuation of their players ahead of the summer transfer window. It’s well known that the Magpies are more than willing to sell a few of their star players early and before the start of next season, but the club isn’t dumb and will place proper price tags on their most-coveted stars.
Livramento was also linked to Manchester City not long ago, which might spark a bidding war that would surely benefit Newcastle.
Making the report kinda believable is the fact that Livramento has already rejected a contract offer by Newcastle for the renewal of his deal, which might lead to his exit if the Magpies aren’t willing to improve the terms.
That said, Livramento still has two years left in his deal after this season, so it’s not that Newcastle should be in any kind of rush to sell him.
