It’s a very full weekend of Minnesota Golden Gophers action with nine different programs and 11 different teams if you include both men’s and women’s swimming and diving and cross country. With the football
game on Friday night, and two of the Gophers teams on the west coast, that opens lots of potential viewing windows for some of the other Golden Gopher action this weekend. Here is a full rundown of the schedule and how you can catch all the action.
Friday October 17th
Swimming and Diving @ The Duel Meet Tournament 7:30 AM
The Gophers head south this weekend to take place in the inaugural The Duel Met Tournament hosted by Georgia Tech this weekend. The unique format combined the men’s and women’s teams into one unit for the weekend competing in a series of duel meets to determine who is the champion of the eight team field. The #24 ranked Gophers will face #20 Auburn in the first meet at 7:30 on Friday morning.
The format of the meet is as follows:
- On Friday Morning (Oct 17), there will be four duals (Quarter finals): Two run simultaneously at 7:30am, then two more at 10am
- On Friday Afternoon, there will be another four duals (Semi Finals + Losers Bracket): Two run at 3pm (Winners and Losers from 7:30am Matchups), then two more at 6pm (Winners and Losers from 10am Matchups)
- On Saturday Morning (Oct 18), there will be three duals for the six teams that aren’t in the final
- On Saturday Afternoon at 2pm, there will be the Dual Meet Final
Diving will take place intermittently. Roster limits per meet will be 15 swimmers and 2 divers per gender. Each swimmer can only swim 3 times per meet. Each team will have 4 athletes per individual swimming event and 2 relay teams per relay event. The events include:
- First half: Relay #1, (100 Free/Back & 200 Fly/Breast) OR (100 Fly/Breast & 200 Free/Back)
- Second half: 500 Free, 200 IM, 50 Free, Relay #2
- Scoring will be combined for genders. Each dual will have a total of 790 points (meaning the first team to reach 396 wins). Scoring is as follows:
- For diving/relays, 1st place is 22, 2nd place is 8, 3rd place is 4, and 4th place is 0.
- For Individual Swimming events, 1st place is 16, 2nd place is 6, 3rd place is 5, 4th place is 4, 5th place is 3, 6th place is 2, 7th place is 1, and 8th place is 0.
The Gophers will either face #8/12 Georgia or unranked George Washington in the semifinal/consolation semifinal at 2:00 PM Friday afternoon. A live stream on WatchESPN will be available HERE.
Tennis @ ITA Central Regional—Norman, OK 9 AM
The Gopher tennis team will begin olay on Day 2 of the ITA Central Regional on Friday in Norman. Action began on Thursday with Anlin Xie, Sofia Pinto and Yinong Ma all eliminated in the singled qualification bracket. Senior Anali Kocevar advanced to the main singles bracket that kicks off on Friday with wins over Iowa State’s Gabriella Kellner, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0, and UMKC’s Amal Gati, 6-0, 6-4. Joining her are Mia Liepert and Jeselle Ante who previously qualified for the main draw.
Koeevar also advanced in the doubles bracket with Leipert defeating Missouri State’s Bilur Gonlusen and Lucy Latham to advance to Friday’s Round of 32. They will be joined by Pinto and Ante who defeated Tulsa’s Tayla Wilmot and Isabella Basson.
Friday’s action begins at 9 AM.
Men’s Cross Country @ Pre-NCAA Meet Columbia, MO 10:45
The Gopher men’s cross-country team heads to the University of Missouri where the NCAA Championships will be held later this year for the annual Pre-NCAA Meet. The 8K race is slated to go off at 10:45 AM.
The Gopher men are coming off of a third-place finish at the 46th Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational at Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course in Illinois on October 3. Redshirt sophomore Aidan Jones (23:41.14) was Minnesota’s top men’s runner in 14th overall.
The Gophers will run against an elite field on Friday including No. 22 Arkansas, Cal Poly, Clemson, Colorado State, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Idaho State, Illinois, Indiana State, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Liberty, No. 30 Loyola (Ill.), Miami (Ohio), No. 19 Missouri, Montana State, Nebraska, Northern Colorado, No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 24 Ole Miss, Penn State, Purdue, Saint Louis, San Francisco, Santa Clara, South Dakota State, Tennessee, Texas, Wichita State, Wyoming, and Youngstown State.

Women’s Cross Country @ Nuttycomb Invite 11:50 AM
The Gopher women’ s cross country team heads to Madison on Friday for the annual Nuttycomb Invitational hosted by the Badgers. Minnesota is coming off of an 8th place finish at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational on October 3rd.
The Gopher women will also run against a very stiff field including Cal Baptist, No. 10 Colorado, Duke, Furman, No. 22 Georgetown, No. 20 Gonzaga, Harvard, Indiana, No. 16 Iowa State, Lipscomb, Louisville, Michigan, No. 24 Michigan State, No. 2 NC State, No. 5 New Mexico, North Carolina, No. 6 Northern Arizona, No. 18 Northwestern, No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 14 Penn State, No. 28 Providence, No. 11 Stanford, Syracuse, Toledo, No. 25 Tulane, No. 14 Utah, No. 17 Washington, No. 27 Washington State, No. 29 Wisconsin, and No. 9 West Virginia. #13/14 Men’s Hockey @ #8 North Dakota 7 PM Fox9+
The Gopher men’s hockey team will renew one of the fiercest rivalries in college hockey when they travel to Grand Forks this weekend to take on North Dakota. The two teams have split their last three series against one another with the Gophers winning the opener all three times. A full preview will be available on TDG. Fox9+ will simulcast the North Dakota broadcast beginning at 7 PM on Friday. Streaming will be for a steep fee on NCHC.TV
Football vs #25 Nebraska 7PM Fox
The Gopher football team will look to see if they can escape their recent struggled and defeat Nebraska for the 6th time under PJ Fleck when the Cornhuskers come to Minneapolis on Friday night. This Nebraska team seems more talented than many of the last few, and Minnesota will have their hands full. Our full game preview is HERE. #18 Volleyball @ Oregon 8 PM B1G+
The Gopher volleyball team takes a trip out west this weekend for a pair of back to bac games in the Pacific Northwest. Minnesota opens up the weekend in Eugene where they will face Oregon at 8 Pm Central time.
Minnesota is coming off of a much needed win in a 3-0 sweep of Ohio State last Sunday at the Pav. Minnesota is down four starters in their lineup all out with season ending injuries. It has been a tough adjustment with losses to Michigan and UCLA in the mix, but a good sign of things improving with the win over the Buckeyes. Oregon is down this season from their usual ranked squad. They enter Friday night’s match with a record of 11-5 and 2-4 in Big Ten play. They have been swept in their last two matches by USC and Washington. First serve is set for 8 PM and will stream on B1G+.
Saturday October 18th:
Swimming and Diving @ The Duel Meet Tournament 7:30 AM
Minnesota will be back for Day 2 of The Duel Meet Championship at Georgia Tech. Depending on how the Gophers fare on Friday they either will hit the pool for the 5th/ 7th place duels at 7:30 AM, the third place duel at 10:30 AM, or the Championship Duel at 1:30 PM. Tennis @ ITA Central Regional—Norman, OK 9 AM
Day three of the ITA Central Regional kicks off at 9 PM with the Rounds of 32 in the singles and the Rounds of 16 in doubles.
#3 Women’s Hockey vs #2 Ohio State 2 PM B1G+
It’s a clash between two of the best women’s hockey teams in the nation when the #3 ranked Gophers host #2 Ohio State for a series at Ridder Arena. Minnesota is 6-0 to start the season while the Buckeyes come in at 4-0. This weekend will be key as both teams should have a full roster compared to when the two teams will meet again in Columbus in the latter half of the season with all their Olympians missing. Faceoff is set for 2 PM and will stream on B1G+.
Baseball Maroon vs Gold 5 PM
The Gopher baseball team closes out their fall scrimmage season with one final game at 5 PM Saturday at Siebert Field. Admission is free.
Men’s Hockey @ North Dakota 6PM Fox9+
Game two of the series between the Gophers and Fighting Hawks is set for a 6 PM puck drop in Grand Forks. It will again air on Fox9+.
Volleyball @ Washington 9 PM B1G+
The Gophers compete their Pacific Northwest swing with a match in Seattle against Washington. The Huskies are 8-8 and 3-3 in the Big Ten with a 3-0 sweep of Oregon last weekend. First serive is set for 9 PM and will stream on B1G+
Sunday October 19th
Men’s Golf @ Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational 6 AM
The Gopher men’s golf team heads down to Vero Beach Florida to compete in the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational at Quail Valley Golf Club. The tournament hosted by South Florida features 16 teams including fellow Big Ten foes Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana, Northwestern, and Penn State. Teams will play 36 holes on Sunday with the first round a shotgun start at 6 AM Central, and round two slated for a 11 AM Central start. Live stats will be available HERE.
Tennis @ ITA Central Regional—Norman, OK 9 AM
Day four of the ITA Central Regional kicks off at 9 PM with the Rounds of 16 in the singles and the Round of 8 in doubles.
Soccer @ Oregon 2 PM B1G+
The Gopher soccer team complete their Pacific Northwest trip in reverse of the volleyball team ending with a match at Oregon on Sunday afternoon. The Gophers faced Washington at 10 PM on Thursday in Seattle. The Gophers are coming off of a huge weekend at home that saw them defeat USC for the first time in program history and draw a scoreless tie against #9 UCLA. Minnesota needs a win against last place Oregon if they want to have any chance to make the 10-team Big Ten Tournament field. Minnesota sits in 13th place with three matches remaining in the season. First kick is set for 2 PM and will stream on B1g+.
