Live from Delaware, it’s Saturday! I, NAS204PSU, am here at BTSC to bring you this Saturday Open Thread (aka SOT).
It’s been quite a week. Another embarrassing playoff loss. Then Mike (Tomlin) drops a bombshell
of a resignation. Whether you wanted it or not, Mike Tomlin is no longer the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. This looks like it will be the most exciting and uncertain offseason in decades.
Steelers fans have long been divided on Mike Tomlin. Some will say he only won with Cowhers’ players. Others will tell you winning a Super Bowl with anyone’s players is something most coaches never do. He never had a losing season in 19 tries, but he also lost 7 straight playoff games in horrific fashion. Many fans were ready for a change, but we can still appreciate the great things that he did.
Mike Tomlin will be remembered as a players coach, a leader of men. A witty and funny speaker, and also someone who usually got the best out of those he led. His legacy is a SB trophy and a long stretch of regular season success marred by early playoff exits. All of this is punctuated by the fact that he had the courage and self-awareness to step away from the game and team he loved.
Let me just say: “Thank you, Coach Tomlin, for all the years of Steeler football. I will remember the good times fondly, and wish you the best in whatever life’s work awaits you, be it coaching again or something else entirely.”
This 6 pack of questions is here to get the conversation going, so let us know what you’re eating/drinking!
