The Golden State Warriors dropped a game to the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night, losing 120-110 to a Bucks team that scratched Giannis Antetokounmpo from the lineup about an hour before tip-off. It was
a difficult loss that came despite another excellent showing from Jonathan Kuminga, and it dropped the Dubs to 4-2 on the young season.
Needless to say, fans had something to say about the loss. So here’s the reaction in real time as the game unfolded, as viewed through the lens of comments from the Golden State of Mind game thread.
First quarter: ‘Giannis is out’
News came in late that the Bucks would be without their two-time MVP, which led to some optimism. But it was clear from the onset that former Warriors second-round pick Ryan Rollins was out for vengeance. The Warriors were sloppy and couldn’t shoot, their bench struggled, and they trailed 34-25 after the quarter.
Second quarter: ‘Steph will cook at some point’
Steph Curry had a very slow start to the game, but eventually found some rhythm in the second quarter. He, along with Kuminga, pulled the Dubs back into it after they fell behind by double figures, and they trailed by just two points at halftime.
Third quarter: ‘Bench has been atrocious’
The Warriors took the lead early in the third quarter as Curry kept heating up, but Milwaukee grabbed it back. When Curry and Kuminga went to the bench, the Bucks scored 12 straight points. Only a late run by Jimmy Butler III got the Dubs back in it, and miraculously they were losing just 87-84 after three quarters.
Fourth quarter: ‘Horford cannot stop anybody’
Everything fell apart in the fourth. The Warriors couldn’t score and couldn’t get stops, and Rollins, who finished with a career-high 32 points, made big shot after big shot to lead the Bucks to victory.
