Former Detroit Lions special teams captain Jalen Reeves-Maybin has been signed to the Chicago Bears’ active roster for the playoffs.
The Bears signed the 30-year-old veteran linebacker to the active roster as they gear up to host the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Round this Sunday evening. The team announced some roster moves on Tuesday, including placing linebacker T.J. Edwards on IR, and promoting Reeves-Maybin to the active roster.
Chicago first picked him up back in November and he’s played
in three regular season games since—16 snaps against the Eagles in Week 13, and 17 snaps against the Packers and the Browns the following weeks. The Bears also put Reeves-Maybin to work in the playoffs, where he tallied two tackles and a quarterback hit against the Packers during the NFL Wild Card Weekend.
The Lions selected Reeves-Maybin in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was a special teams standout in Detroit, where he spent seven of the eight past seasons with a small stint in Houston in 2022. Fans who loved him were heartbroken when the Lions parted ways with the veteran linebacker last February to save $2 million in cap space.
Fun fact: The Bears filled his practice squad spot with linebacker Nephi Sewell, Penei’s brother. He’s also the older brother of Bears LB Noah Sewell, who is on IR.
And onto the rest of your notes.
- In case you missed it from Wild Card Weekend, Aidan Hutchinson joined ESPN for some commentary and an outlook on the 2025 Lions season.
- Also circulating on social media — pretty cool to get in-depth analysis from an all-time great on how he made adjustments in unruly conditions. Tom Brady got a lot of flack when he first started in broadcasting, but seemed to win over a lot of people with this one.
- They’re not in uniform but they’re still on the sidelines—some Lions are out supporting friends duking it out in the playoffs.
- We shouldn’t laugh because we’re not even in the playoffs, but Lions fans have felt this pain so many times that I think they get a pass. Watch as Packers fans react to the loss to the Bears this past weekend.
- This is for fans of both types of football. I’m a Liverpool fan and was hoping for a Lions comparison, but was deeply disappointed.
