Sometime over the past decade, the Premier League has become commonly known as “the best league in the world.” Considering what defines the best league in the world is incredibly subjective, this description is very shallow. Still, it is not hard to see why many would consider it to be the best in the world. It is the most heavily advertised, reported on, watched and read about league in the world, after all. Furthermore, league probably houses the greatest collection of footballing and coaching
talent in the world.
Oh, and it spends dramatic and eye catching sums of money to make all of the above happen.
Part of being so well advertised and regularly viewed comes incredible earnings that blow the other leagues out of the water. One such league is the Bundesliga, where perennial winners Bayern Munich earn less money from finishing top of the standings than the last placed team in the Premier League. For more than one fan, it begs the question: What if Bayern played in the Premier League? How much money would Die Rekordmeister be able to make and spend to improve the team?
But it is not all about the money. Despite his former role as CFO at Bayern, Jan-Christian Dreesen knows this and emphasized this sentiment: “Our home is the Bundesliga, and it will stay that way. That’s precisely why we have always been clearly against a European Super League. Moreover, we play against Premier League clubs often enough in the Champions League, and we regularly beat them,” Dreesen could not help adding, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “We have nothing to fear from the English clubs.”
Ignoring all logistics of such a move, relocating Bayern to the Premier League would rip all of the tradition away from the Bavarians. How many fans would accept such a trade off? Of the stadium going fans, likely not many.
