It still feels weird to type “Nelson” and not mean “Brock” — and hey, if Brocktober gets his elusive Stanley Cup this spring, we’ll still have cause to clarify. But the Islanders-centric Nelson news of the day is that Isles prospect Danny Nelson gets the rare opportunity to join established NHLers as part of Team USA at the IIHF World Championship this spring in Switzerland.
Coming off another strong season with NCAA Notre Dame and having appeared in the World Juniors in two separate years, he’s clearly
on the USA radar, so this is both an honor and a benefit to his continued development at age 20.
It’s hardly a star-studded roster, but there are some established, 1,000-game NHLers as well as other young players on the way up, including Long Island’s own but Boston’s rental, James Hagens.
