UFC legend Dustin Poirier spent Father’s Day in jail.
The former UFC interim lightweight champion was reportedly arrested on Sunday on charges of “Public Drunk,” according to TMZ. “The Diamond,” who was released after just a few hours behind bars, appeared in court on Monday morning and could face a possible fine and jail time if convicted on the misdemeanor charge.
“Love you all,” Poirier wrote on Instagram. “Working on myself.”
Poirier retired after back-to-back losses to Islam Makhachev and Max Holloway.
While 37 is fairly young for retirement in MMA, “The Diamond” spent the bulk of his career in action-packed brawls, to the delight of fans but to the detriment of his long-term health.
Perhaps it was also hard to sit on the sidelines and watch longtime rival, Justin Gaethje, finally win the 155-pound strap at UFC White House. Details of the arrest are not yet available, but you can expect much more on this developing story in the coming days.
Stay tuned.
