Gut check time. Week 5 and it already feels like high-stakes football, this is all I could have ever asked for before the season started.
With a full week of coverage, analysis, and predictions… I want to give a shout out to Jacob Hutchinson for writing my favorite non-Kyle Posey preview for Week 5. Everyone’s been saying sort of the same thing all week, which is what usually happens, but I appreciate that Jacob (and KP!) actually break down specific plays and use film tape to back up their points.
I feel smarter after reading it.
Let’s see what today brings us, see y’all on the other side. Go Niners!!!!
49ers’ Brock Purdy has scores to settle with Seahawks’ defense (paywall)
“He’s a rare chess piece who, Shanahan said, can mess up offensive “rules.” That is, it’s hard to know who will account for Emmanwori after breaking the huddle because this is how he’s been aligned for his 1,029 career snaps: slot corner (486), linebacker (393), defensive end (142), free safety (7), outside cornerback (1).
“It’s just how you target things,” Shanahan said. “When you’re not ready for it and all of a sudden a DB is a linebacker, and then all of a sudden, a DB is a D-end, you can get a lot of guys in the wrong (spots).”
NFL fines 49ers’ Dre Greenlaw nearly $12K for taunting toward Broncos sideline
“Coach Kyle Shanahan praised Greenlaw’s passion and aggressiveness this week on 49ers Game Plan. Greenlaw was not penalized for taunting in the game. And Shanahan said Greenlaw generally has a knack for avoiding those post-whistle penalties.
“We never tried to tell him to dial it back,” Shanahan said. “But it’s something we always got to talk about within the rules of the game. We’re playing football, and you got to always make sure it’s football, and football stops as soon as the whistle blows.”
49ers’ Christian McCaffrey and Olivia Culpo welcome second child
“Now, Colette has a little brother. McCaffrey and Culpo announced the birth of their second child, a son named Roman Augustus McCaffrey.”
49ers release veteran defensive lineman after roster moves on Saturday
“The 49ers could also potentially get some reinforcements next week. Nick Bosa and James Thompson Jr. are two defensive linemen who did not practice this week, but could potentially get into the mix ahead of the Washington Commanders game next Monday.”
