Ten Fourteen Eighteen B1G Things
- There’s a first time for everything
- At least they didn’t get curb stomped like everyone else to date.
- No harboring today!
- And with that loss, Northwestern takes the loss leader title!
- McSorley across the middle, TOUDHD —wait wrong year, and wrong team.
- W gets the W against W.
- Wait I thought they’d fired Mike Locksley.
- Nebraska with another close win. It’s like they’re a brand new team!
The Rundown
Northwestern takes the loss leader title from Indiana with loss to USC
In this season of misery, I always take solace in the little things.
MinnesotaWildcat: Ah, what could have been.
Northwestern committed one of the great Fall’s Tarts of recent memory on a would’ve-been pick-six,
USC remembered that they had Makai Lemon and just continued giving him the ball, and this one was pretty much over from there.
A still-backbreaking but enjoyably-new way of getting punched in the nuts by this stupid goddamn team.
Fire Zach Lujan, retain Braun if you must, let’s get this Wrigley bullshit over with ASAP.
Indiana gets its first win in Beaver Stadium
It almost didn’t happen, and it led to a wild finish as a neutral fan. As a fan of the losing team, let’s hope it takes another 30 years for the next win.
thumpasaurus: Eat shit Cignetti, where was this complete lack of focus against Illinois?
BuffKomodo: Better to win ugly than lost pretty.
Narrator: Losing pretty would have been ideal, actually.
BuffKomodo: This really is a new Indiana program. I cannot tell you how many times we’ve watched this game go the other way. Now, with a ballsy 80 yard TD drive that started with a sack, Indiana comes from behind in the final minute to win their first ever game in Beaver Stadium. I didn’t get to watch until halftime so I got to see the worst of it, but the resolve of this program man. Now, a physically easier but emotionally more challenging challenge presents itself. Can you beat two teams who you are clearly better than and go to Indy for the first time in program history? Buckle up. Game on!
Ohio State doesn’t even know what a harbor is
It was over when it was scheduled.
BoilerUp89: to the surprise of no one, OSU beat Purdue. Pretty sure most Purdue fans are more concerned about the rebounding issues on the basketball team
thumpasaurus: THE AGENDA WEEK 11: I’m ready to concede that the big ten sucks
HoustonBoiler: As BU89 said, no one is surprised that Ohio State beat Purdue. Basically, the Buckeye offense really dominated the game, converted 9 of 13 3rd downs, kept the Buckeye defense on the sideline, and had the ball for almost 41 minutes. YES, you read that right, Ohio State had the ball for almost 41 minutes. You would think in possessing the ball that long, Ohio State would have run a ton of plays, but they only ran 76. On the other hand, Purdue was limited to just 44 plays on offense. Purdue played hard and did some good things – they played hard, sacked Julian Sayin twice, had an interception, scored a TD against OSU from the redzone, only committed two penalties (though the second was costly in that it negated a first down), scored more points than most other teams have against OSU. Bottom line, Ohio State was a boa constrictor that squeezed Purdue to death.
MaximumSam: The Buckeyes held out Carnell Tate “to be really careful.” Heck of a thing to hold out a first round draft pick for a road game, but here we are. It felt like Ryan Day was treating this exercise as an extended practice. Luckily I had two televisions set up so I didn’t miss Indiana-Penn State.
Oregon does to Iowa what Iowa does to everyone
Thanks, I hate it. Why couldn’t both these teams lose?
Narrator: Our Oregon “writer” did not like our snark so he peaced. The ransom for our Iowa “writers” was too much for us, let them rest in peace.
When Rutgers is blowing you out, you know you got problems
Maryland is taking this whole “September Maryland” joke too far.
RUReady4Brazil: Rutgers under Greg Schiano for the nth time when they seem down and out for good pull one out of nowhere. Despite surrendering three 50+ yard runs in the first half, the Knights had a lead and held their semi-rival Maryland to just three points in the second half. Rutgers has offensive weapons so when the line can block they not only put up yards but also points. The defense has been bad in every aspect of defense but somehow confused a true freshman enough to set up a potentially wild environment in the season finale against Penn State who they haven’t beaten since 1988.
Larry31: Maryland’s secondary was horrendous, allowing Ian Strong to grab 3 TD receptions. One was a broken coverage. One was the worst 1-on-1 defense I have ever seen. Maryland currently looks lost. Not the same team that was beating Nebraska, Washington, and UCLA with 2:00 to go in three consecutive weeks in October. I think Maryland will lose out, resulting in two straight four-win seasons. This result will put Locks firmly on the hot seat, delivering one of the biggest decisions onto the lap of an AD that has only been on the job since July.
Wisconsin won’t go winless in the Big Ten!
A little peek behind the curtain: This transition to WordPress has meant using their new block editor.
IT IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PIECE OF SOFTWARE EVER INVENTED!
Just let me draft my shit however I want, I don’t need you telling me which “blocks” I can use you piece of garbage.
Narrator: We also lack Wisconsin and Washington writers so you get this.
Nebraska with another close one!
Maybe “year 3 Matt Rhule” is just Nebraska wins close games now.
BigRed_Twice: That was a pleasant surprise! I’m not known for my optimism, so of course I’d booked us for three losses to end the season. Instead, the Huskers went ahead and won a one-score game. I’ve been informed that it is less fun for some people that we are now winning these games sometimes, but I disagree. I think it’s fun.
UCLA’s offense (or it’s QB anyway) was fun to watch. Its defense was a liability as it has been all season.
The story for Nebraska was, of course, true freshman TJ LaTeef’s debut at QB after Dylan Raiola’s season-ending injury last week. This could have gone lots of different ways, many of them bad. But I think it’s safe to say LaTeef exceeded all expectations. He played poised, he protected the ball, he made use of his tried-and-true weapons, and put his team in a position to win. A really excellent debut for him, and one that, if it doesn’t make it a certainty that the Huskers have more wins in them this year, at least makes it look like a possibility.
