An interesting situation is brewing in the Bay Area as the Golden State Warriors are now withholding salary payments to center Kristaps Porzingis for failure to render services. Anthony Slater and Shams Charania of ESPN are reporting that the Warriors and their center are at an impasse and that Porzingis may, in face, retire.
The Warriors have no current plans on voiding Porzingis’ contract, team sources said, maintaining trade flexibility up until the Feb. 11 deadline. Porzingis is not actively disputing
the lack of payments and the player’s association has no plan to dispute either, league sources said.
Porzingis is a 10-year NBA veteran. He’s played for multiple teams, most notably the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Boston Celtics, with whom he won an NBA title in 2024. The Warriors traded Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks for Porzingis at last season’s trade deadline. He played 15 games for them during the 2025-26 campaign, averaging 16.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 23.7 minutes per.
Porzingis is currently suffering from an autoimmune condition, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. It generally results in rapid heartrate and can include dizziness and fatigue. He has not played for the Warriors yet this season.
