Gamesmanship has been around forever and in the first half of Bayern Munich’s 1-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg, 21-year-old Jeanuël Belocian did his best to mess up “Mr. Automatic” Harry Kane ahead of a penalty kick attempt.
As Kane strode to the spot, he could see that the area had been damaged by Belocian, who was intent on trying to give Wolfsburg an edge.
Well, it worked as Kane missed his attempt, a rare occasion to say the least. While it is debatable on whether or not Belocian’s dark arts on the grass
caused Kane’s miss, it likely did not help.
Afterward, Belocian admitted that he purposely tore up the grass around the penalty spot:
Kane has been incredible this season from the spot and elsewhere, so the PK miss was probably a bitter pill for him to swallow. The Englishman — and his teammates — probably learned a lesson in how to protect the area and might not make the same mistake of leaving it open to absorb damage in the future.
