Lennart Karl will still get his chance to work with Jürgen Klopp and the Germany national team, but the Bayern Munich youngster will take a slightly different route during the upcoming international break per Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Germany have announced that Karl and Karim Adeyemi will switch places between the two squads for workload management reasons. Karl will now join the second squad for the matches against Serbia at home and Greece away, while Adeyemi will move
into the first squad for the games against the Netherlands away and Greece.
The move is being made as a precaution for Karl after the 18-year-old experienced some slight muscular discomfort last week. That issue was also the reason Karl did not feature for Bayern Munich against Union Berlin.
Rather than risk pushing the teenage midfielder too hard, Karl will remain in Munich and follow an individual training program before joining up with the Germany squad on Sunday.
It is another reminder of just how carefully Bayern Munich and Germany are managing Karl’s workload. The youngster has made a remarkable impact at senior level, but with the season still in its early stages, there is little reason to take unnecessary risks with one of the most exciting young players in the squad.
For Karl, the important thing is that this is not a withdrawal from Germany duty. He will still get the opportunity to work under Klopp and potentially make his international debut, just with a slightly more cautious schedule.
And considering how much attention Karl has received since breaking into the Bayern Munich first team, a little extra rest probably is not the worst idea.
