First away game of the season…..and I decided to go spend time with DD (dear daughter) in the morning. TiVo is a beautiful thing, so we went and got massages, hit a couple of yard sales and ultimately wound up back at the house around 1-ish. Add in Mr. Squillian’s utter disdain for watching commercials, and a plan was hatched.
For those of you who have been around these parts a while, you might recall that DD (and not an insignificant amount of my money) spent some time at the North Avenue Trade School.
She did ultimately earn a degree in International Affairs and Modern Languages, and currently works in customer service for a financial company. If any of you think you know of an open position for a hard working gNat, let me know. She’s a bit tired of her current employer. Podunk approved of her school of choice, and engaged in a bit of good-natured ribbing back and forth. Now DD is permanently on my schedule for rivalry weekend (except that one with 8 OTs – she was in the ER with shingles by her eye).
Mr. Squillian had spent the morning cooking chicken bites and Rice Krispy Treats, so we had plenty to nosh while flipping back and forth between our game against Arky and the gNats versus Mercer (have I mentioned that both Mr. Squillian & I graduated from Mercer?). Add to that, Podunk’s youngest (who occasionally shows up ‘round these parts as Podunkpup) purchased tickets and was actually at the game, and a good time was had by all.
However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog Football Wins whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of any particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my deepest honor and privilege to bring to you this week’s edition of: The Winning Smart Victory Post.
Coach Kirby Smart coached his 141st game this week for the Red & Black. He currently boasts a 120-21 record and a 0.8511 winning percentage, having carded his one hundred twentieth win overall in the third game of the 2026 season against the Woo Pigs of Arkansas.
At the identical juncture in their careers:
Vince Dooley’s 141st game as head coach resulted in a Georgia Bulldogs win over the fightin’ felines of Kentucky in the seventh game of the 1976 season, giving Coach Dooley a record of 94-42-5 and a 0.6844 percentage.
Coach Mark Richt was 105-36 (0.7447) after a win over Kentucky in the 11th game of the 2011 season.
One hundred and forty one games into his head coaching career Kirby Smart is fifteen games ahead of Coach Mark Richt and ahead of Coach Vince Dooley by 26 games. As of now, he is holding his own versus the two winningest coaches in Georgia Football History.
