New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez said he’s ready to return Sunday against the New York Jets.
“I’m ready to go,” Gonzalez said Wednesday. “I’m good now, ready for Sunday.”
Gonzalez suffered a shoulder injury in the Patriots’ Week 3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The corner went on to finish the game and stated he was “good” afterwards, but went on to miss the Patriots last two games.
“At that point, you got a lot of adrenaline. Adrenaline covers a lot of things in this sport,” Gonzalez
said about finishing the game. “At that time, I felt good. Things happen, so it is what it is and I’m ready for this week.
“I’ve been itching, kind of going a little crazy when I’m not getting to play. It’s hard. You put in work with all these guys and then you don’t get to be out there with them.”
The Patriots have held things together in Gonzalez’s absence. That included a 45-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in which Gonzalez watched from the sidelines to be there for his teammates.
His return on Sunday sets him up for a match up against Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who he has not faced since the 2024 season.
“[Does everything well],” Gonzalez said. ”He can play all the spots in the offense, they move him around a lot. Extremely athletic, he makes highlight catches all the time. A ton of respect for who he is, for the player he is, and excited to see him again.“
Gonzalez’s return is not the only good new the Patriots received in the injury department on Wednesday, as the team also opened the practice window for wide receiver A.J. Brown and offensive tackle Marcus Bryant.
New England is steal dealing with issues elsewhere at cornerback, as Carlton Davis, Marcus Jones, Karon Prunty, and Channing Canada were not spotted at the start of Wednesday’s practice.
