With Indiana set to face off with Miami in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday night, we asked fans which former Hoosiers they’d add to this team if they could.
Hoosier fans delivered a pretty strong favorite: defensive end Adewale Ogunleye:
Ogunleye won out over Dan Feeney and Micah McFadden, and it makes sense. If this Hoosier team could use a bit of something extra, it’s pressure off the edge at this point in the season.
Few would be better at providing that than Ogunleye,
who holds Indiana’s program records in career sacks with 34.5, tackles for loss with 64 and earned All-Big Ten honors in each of his final three seasons with the program. He joined the Hoosiers out of Tottenville High School in Staten Island, New York City and (somehow) went unselected in the 2000 NFL Draft.
He joined the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent and built a productive professional career from there, spending time with the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans after his time in Miami ended. He earned First Team All-Pro honors and a pro bowl nod in 2003 when he totaled 15 sacks with the Dolphins.
While he won’t be suiting up, he’ll join the Hoosiers’ sideline as an honorary captain for the national championship.
