A post from Instagram seems to confirm that the Denver Broncos have released veteran running back Jaleel McLaughlin today.
McLaughlin has been a big part of the Broncos since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He has piled up 226 carries for 1093 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground and 59 receptions for 263 yards for 4 more touchdowns in his career.
However, he’s seen his contributions
drop sharply over the last season and is now a guy with great straight-line speed, but little to offer elsewhere in a running back room that is getting crowded. The drop-off in production also coincided with the addition of RJ Harvey, which is something we noted in our annual roster review this summer:
Both are versatile threats out of the back field as runners and receivers. Both have that playmaking ability that makes them a threat when they touch the ball. The difference between the two is that Harvey is bigger and more physical. And Harvey proved how reliable he can be, even as a rookie, after Dobbins was lost to injury.
If he doesn’t catch on with another team, which is a possibility given his experience, we should see him get an offer to rejoin Denver’s practice squad later this week.
