There are certain things that just feel inevitable when September rolls around in Munich: Oktoberfest begins, the lederhosen come out, and Bayern Munich eventually makes its annual pilgrimage to the Wiesn.
The club’s Oktoberfest visit has become one of the most recognizable traditions in German football. Players, coaches, executives, and their families traditionally gather at the world-famous festival dressed in Bavarian Tracht, with Bayern Munich embracing the culture of the city it calls home.
For
the players, it is also one of the rare opportunities during the season to step away from the intensity of football and enjoy a little time together away from the training ground. Of course, there is always plenty of attention on who wore the best lederhosen, who showed up with the most impressive outfit, and which new arrivals are still figuring out exactly how this whole Bavarian tradition works.
For Bayern Munich supporters, it has become another annual reminder that the club is deeply connected to Munich — and sometimes football can wait for a Maß and a pretzel. There was, however, some doubt about the team being able to attend the festivities due to the altered international break schedule.
After some finagling, the tradition is alive!
