It’s finally time for the Green Bay Packers to get the 2026 preseason underway. The team has traveled a few states away for their preseason opener, visiting the new home of a pair of old friends who combined to deliver the team’s most recent Super Bowl title.
That’s right — the Packers will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in the teams’ first game of this preseason. The Steelers will have Aaron Rodgers at quarterback for the second straight season, but this year the franchise reunited him with former
Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. Of course, Pittsburgh was the team that lost Super Bowl XLV to the Packers, when Rodgers earned Super Bowl MVP honors.
Whether or not Rodgers will play today remains to be seen, but the Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur expect their starters to play at least a few snaps this evening. That group should still be a limited starting unit, with a few key contributors still working their way back from injuries, but Jordan Love and a few other top players are likely to get at least a bit of playing time.
This will be the second time Love and company will play against a Rodgers-led Steelers team, as the two legendary franchises met during the regular season a year ago. The Packers came out on top in that big prime time matchup, with Tucker Kraft having his biggest career game in a 35-25 victory.
