The Tennessee Titans are holding their two-day mandatory minicamp this week. Head coach Robert Saleh and his three coordinators spoke at the podium prior to the first practice. We’ve compiled some thoughts and analysis on the most interesting things they said.
The hot-topic button has been Ward’s accuracy and general performance throughout OTAs. Saleh called Ward “outstanding” at OTAs heading into minicamp, per Jim Wyatt. It sounds like the Titans’ coaching staff feels the offseason criticism of Ward has been overblown.
Saleh doubled down on praising Ward’s performance throughout OTAs. He claimed every quarterback misses throws, and he saw Brock Purdy “miss plenty of throws” in San Francisco despite Purdy “being one of the most accurate quarterbacks in football.”
Daboll called Carnell Tate “one of the best I’ve worked with as far as picking things up,” per Turron Davenport. Expectations are sky-high for Tate entering his rookie season. The Titans may have solved their WR1 problem.
Daboll reiterated that he’s pleased with Ward’s offseason progress. He claimed Ward understands the offense well and has been more accurate at practice than maybe given credit for. Daboll didn’t sound concerned about Ward in this video captured by TD.
Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley is very pleased with rookie linebacker Anthony Hill Jr. and the progess he’s made this offseason, per Buck Reising. It feels like Hill could be a major factor for the Titans defense this season. He’s the type of linebacker Saleh covets.
Bradley also prasied sophomore safety Kevin Winston, captured by Jim Wyatt. The former Penn State standout will start opposite Amani Hooker this season. Saleh has praised Winston on multiple occasions this offseason. He looks ready to take a step.
The Titans should have two competitive practices at mandatory minicamp. Outside of some minor injuries (Femi Oladejo, Calvin Ridley, Cor’Dale Flott among them?), the Titans should have really good attendance at practice.
