Arizona will have a new running backs coach for the 2026 season after Alonzo Carter was hired Monday as head coach at Sacramento State.
The 57-year-old Carter returns to head coaching after spending the last nine seasons as an assistant coach under Brent Brennan, first at San Jose State from 2017-23 and then the past two years at Arizona. Prior to that he was head coach at Contra
Costa College in the Bay Area as well as at the high school level.
Sacramento State, an FCS school that plays in the Big Sky, went 7-5 this season under first-year coach Brennan Marion, who is now offensive coordinator at Colorado.
Carter is the second member of Arizona’s staff to take a new job since the regular season ended. General manager Gaizka Crowley left for the same position at Arkansas.
Arizona has made an addition to its front office, hiring Andrew Morgan from Idaho to be recruiting operations coordinator. That’s a new position and not a replacement for Crowley.
Stukes on All-American team
Six years removed from making his UA debut as a walk-on in empty stadiums during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Treydan Stukes is finishing his college career as an All-American. Stukes was named to the Associated Press’s Third Team on Monday.
Stukes has started the last 10 games since returning from a knee injury suffered last season, recording 52 tackles with a sack along with four interceptions and six pass breakups. He and teammates Noah Fifita and Dalton Johnson were named to the Big 12’s all-conference First Team.
The Holiday Bowl on Jan. 2 against SMU in San Diego will be the 53th game for Stukes at Arizona, tied for third-most in school history.
Arizona has had an AP All-American for the second season in a row, joining wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan who was a Third Team selection in 2024. Stukes is the first defensive All-American since linebacker Scooby Wright was a unanimous choice in 2014.
