Enrique Cerezo has once again been quizzed on Julian Alvarez’s future amid continued talk about a summer move to Barcelona.
Atletico Madrid have so far been adamant that Alvarez is not for sale and will continue with Diego Simeone’s side despite the fact he publicly asked for a transfer during World Cup 2026.
Cerezo was asked about Laporta’s recent statements that Barca had made an offer for Alvarez but that it’s “not open-ended” and told reporters: “Joan Laporta is a good friend, he’s a great president,
and he knows very well, as do all of you, where Julián Álvarez will be playing next year,”
The Atletico chief was also asked if his club could forgive Alvarez for saying he felt a transfer was the best thing this summer, adding: “In this life, we all make mistakes, everything can be forgiven. I insist that he is a player of Atlético de Madrid.”
Alvarez is set to play in the World Cup final on Sunday for Argentina against Spain and his future is expected to be resolved after the game.
Barcelona remain determined to land the forward but Atletico seem as keen as ever to keep him at the club.
