As the Chicago Bears prepare for the second game of the season against the Detroit Lions, both teams have released their first official injury report for week 1.
The Bears were extremely banged up for a season opener last week, notably missing both starting cornerbacks (Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon), as well as starting linebacker TJ Edwards. So how do things stand heading into this Sunday?
The Bears had a walk through practice on Wednesday, so the injury report is an estimation. Listed as DNP (did
not practice) were: DB Kyler Gordon (hamstring) and DL Grady Jarrett (knee).
Listed as limited in practice were: LB TJ Edwards (hamstring), DB Josh Blackwell (groin), RB Roschon Johnson (foot), and WR Jahdae Walker (ankle).
And the biggest news of the day, both WR DJ Moore (abdomen/groin) and DB Jaylon Johnson (calf/groin) practiced in full according to the estimated injury report.
Johnson’s absence throughout training camp, as well as being inactive last week vs. the Vikings, was a cause for major concern. It’s very encouraging to see that he practiced on Wednesday as the Bears are going to need him to play on Sunday in a tough matchup with the Lions. The same goes for Moore, who took a nasty hit near the end of Monday night’s game.
LB TJ Edwards was also a scratch from Monday night’s game, so we’ll be monitoring his status as we get closer to Sunday. His status as “limited,” in addition to Roschon Johnson having the same status, means both are making progress on their injuries.
In an idea world, Gordon would also be ready to go this weekend, so his status will be worth monitoring as the week goes on. He was a surprising name who seemingly popped up on the injury report last weekend out of nowhere and then was inactive vs. the Vikings.
Grady Jarrett’s name seemingly popped up out of nowhere. A major edition to the Bears’ revamped defensive line, a knee injury that was estimated to keep him out of practice today is noteworthy.
The Detroit Lions had some notable names listed on their first injury report for week two. Listed as DNP were: LB Jack Campbell (ankle) and OT Taylor Decker (shoulder). Listed as limited were: LB Trevor Nowaske (elbow) and RB Sione Vaki (hamstring). Both CB Terrion Arnold (groin) and S Daniel Thomas (hand) were full participants.
The Bears take on the Lions this Sunday at Ford Field. The game takes place at 12:00 p.m. (Chicago time).
