The Mariners were never going to win out. We all knew that. But still, you’d be hard-pressed to think of a more bummer loss with the Astros and Guardians both winning yesterday, resulting in both magic numbers staying idle and Houston climbing back into first place. Thankfully, with the Astros idle, all the M’s have to do is pull out a win to head to Daikin Park tied.
Lineups:

Luis Castillo gets the ball today, coming off two consecutive strong outings against Atlanta and the Angels,
and we’re also treated to a Leo Rivas sighting, who will get the start at second base while Jorge Polanco slides back to DH. The Royals are starting former Mariners farmhand Stephen Kolek on the mound, who they acquired from the Padres this traded deadline for catcher Freddy Fermín. Kolek has been on a nice run in his first three starts as a Royal, going at least six innings and allowing no more than two runs in each of them – though some long ball regression may be due for him. Let’s make it today!
