The NFL schedule has been out for over a week now, and we’ve done a lot of analysis covering a lot of different storylines for the Washington Commanders. They’re coming off a disappointing 5-12 season, that followed a 12-5 season and an appearance in the NFC Championship Game. That led to massive changes to the roster and coaching staff, and questions about what the team will look like in Year 3 of the Adam Peters/Dan Quinn/Jayden Daniels era.
Coming off a season that led to the Commanders picking
No. 7 overall in the draft, expectations aren’t high for some people until they see positive effects from the offseason changes. Odds makers set the O/U on wins at 7.5 for Washington, but they’re only favored in 5 out of their 17 games this season.
The Commanders schedule is looking like a tale of two seasons, with the tougher part of the schedule happening up front, and the weaker half of the schedule coming in the second half. Washington starts off with two road games against division rivals, and they are 4.5-point underdogs against the Eagles and Cowboys. They are underdogs against the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks the following week for their home opener.
The Commanders are favored for the first time in Week 4, when they are the “home” team against the Indianapolis Colts in London, England. There’s no early bye after the international game, instead they play their third division game in the first five weeks, with Washington favored over New York when they host the Giants.
Washington isn’t favored in another game until Week 12, and if they can’t pull off some upsets before that, it will be a long season that brings even more changes next year. That 5-game stretch has the Commanders as underdogs at home against the 49ers (MNF) and Eagles (SNF); on the road against the Giants (TNF), and back at home vs the Rams and Bengals (MNF). That’s a rough stretch of prime-time games, but they have a Week 7 bye for an early break in the first half of the season.
Washington gets a break with their second pair of games that have them favored back-to-back, and they are both away games. The Commanders are big road favorites (-4.5) against the Cardinals in Week 12, and then favored again against the Titans in Nashville the following week.
The Washington Commanders are only favored one more time during the final five games, when they host the Falcons in Week 15. The Texans come to Landover in Week 14, and are currently favored in the CJ Stroud vs Jayden Daniels game. The season closes out with the Commanders as underdogs for the last three games against the Vikings and Jaguars on the road, and the home season finale against the Dallas Cowboys.
