Yesterday, it was reported that Cutter Boley will start at quarterback for the Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday, as they host Eastern Michigan at Kroger Field.
The news wasn’t a huge surprise, as Zach Calzada, who started the first two games at QB for Kentucky, left last Saturday’s game with an injury. Following the game and in media appearances earlier this week, head coach Mark Stoops indicated that he wanted to see Boley play.
Now, the highly-touted redshirt freshman will have a chance to make his
mark in Lexington. Calzada got off to a slow start in his first two games as a Wildcat, but Saturday represents a good opportunity for Boley to come out, make some plays, and build his confidence moving forward.
Eastern Michigan is 0-2 to start the season, including a 28-23 loss this past Saturday to FCS squad Long Island. The Eagles defense gave up 479 yards of offense to Long Island, including 248 through the air and 231 on the ground.
That should be welcome news for a Wildcats squad that is breaking in a new starter and has struggled to move the ball consistently during the first two games. The Wildcats should be able to pick up some yards through the run game, and as the Eagles load the box to stop the run, it should provide opportunities for Boley to connect on some big throws through play-action.
Fans should be excited to see Boley on the field to see what he can provide, and they’ll get a good look this Saturday.
