No more bye weeks. It’s now or never for Mizzou’s fledgling College Football Playoff hopes.
Realistically, I know what I just typed isn’t feasible. It might not be fair. Mizzou is down two captains and
starting-caliber QBs. They’re down to their third stringer and, as much as we love Matt Zollers and can see a bright future with him behind center, it’s… a bit much to expect him to lead the Tigers to their first CFP bid.
But if there were a time to prove us wrong, it’d be this weekend when Mizzou welcomes Texas A&M to town. The Tigers have played their only two Top 10 opponents tough this year, losing by a combined 10 points. But the Aggies, surging toward CFP contention under Mike Elko, might be the most complete team the Tigers have faced this season. And they won’t be in the mood to let anyone spoil the party, much less their former Big XII dance partners.
Still, it’s the kind of opportunity you dream of when you’re an on-the-rise program in the SEC. And regardless of who is behind center, Mizzou’s defense should keep things close enough to make it competitive. It’s put up or shut up time for the Tigers, at least as far as prospective postseason bids go.
Here are your opening odds for the week.
