Chelsea Women travel to Merseyside tomorrow to chase a win they simply can’t go without. Manchester City have already knocked them off top spot and sit four points clear, which means every game from here
is about keeping the pressure on and refusing to give up any more cheap draws like the one at Arsenal last weekend.
Liverpool, now coached by former City boss Gareth Taylor, are in a mess: 11th in the table with just one point from seven matches. Chelsea are expected to handle this. But facing a side that desperate, in front of their own crowd, is exactly the sort of fixture that punishes any drop in standards.

Liverpool team news: The Reds’ summer window saw a blend of departure and reinforcement: marquee exits included veteran Niamh Fahey retiring and both Taylor Hinds and Olivia Smith moving to Arsenal, the latter on a world-record £1m fee. On the incoming side, Liverpool secured midfielder Kirsty Maclean, goalkeeper Rafaela Borggräfe, striker Beata Olsson and even former Chelsea defender Alejandra Bernabé.
The hosts are badly depleted ahead of Chelsea’s visit. Their injury list is long, which includes the aforementioned Bernabé and midfielder Marie Höbinger. There is some improvement elsewhere, with defenders Gemma Bonner and Lucy Parry back available, but overall Gareth Taylor’s side remain thin and short of options at a time when they can least afford it.
Chelsea team news: A 6-0 win in the UEFA Women’s Champions League is never something to scoff at, especially when the scoreline could have very well been a competition record if it wasn’t for St. Pölten goalkeeper Carina Schlüter having the performance of her live against us. However even in adversity this Liverpool side is treacherous, and they love playing tricks on us.
For tomorrow’s clash, manager Sonia Bompastor won’t be able to count on goalkeeper Hannah Hampton who is sidelined with a quad injury. The rest of the squad is reportedly fit, which gives Sonia a near-full bench to draw from.
Previously: Dominance turns into three goals in our favour, and three points in the bag.
