Morgan Rogers came off the bench in the second half, but England were not able to defeat Spain in Nations League action last night, with the Three Lions failing to make good on a 2-1 half-time lead to lose 3-2 in the end. Harry Kane missed a penalty that would’ve given England a 3-1 advantage early in the second half, before the World Champions stormed back to keep their winning streak going.
In a hypothetical rematch of what should’ve been the World Cup final — instead of the abomination that we
got with Argentina — Spain made a lightning start when Lamie Yamal scored the third quickest goal ever against England at Wembley, but the hosts would fire back with a quickfire double late in the half through Anthony Gordon and Kane.
Rogers, the only Chelsea representative in the squad after Reece James and Cole Palmer were withdrawn due to injury, had a couple nice bits of play but could not craft an equalizer for Thomas Tuchel’s under-strength squad.
In the days before, we also saw Nations League action for Maxence Lacroix, Pedro Neto, and Roméo Lavia with France, Portugal, and Belgium, respectively, while Jorrel Hato was an unused substitute for the Netherlands. This was Lavia’s first cap in about 3.5 years, so that’s nice and hopefully a good sign that perhaps his injury issues are now behind him.
