The Wisconsin Badgers are seeing some more inside linebackers enter the transfer portal, as Antarron Turner is heading to the transfer portal after one season in Madison.
Turner, a redshirt junior this
past season, did not play in a single game this year after transferring in from Western Carolina. He was expected to be a reserve linebacker, but was leapfrogged by freshmen Cooper Catalano and Mason Posa before the season started.
Turner played in 12 games in 2024 for Western Carolina, recording 61 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and two pass breakups as a redshirt sophomore.
He’ll head to the transfer portal for his final year of eligibility. The question for Wisconsin becomes: Do they need more linebacker depth now?
Obviously, with Turner, Christian Alliegro, and Tackett Curtis entering the portal, Wisconsin is losing three scholarship players at the position. But, you don’t want to spend too many resources to fill depth when you have other major needs.
Wisconsin is currently projected to have the following scholarship linebackers on the roster next year: Mason Posa, Cooper Catalano, Thomas Heiberger, Landon Gauthier, Tyler Jansey, and Ben Wenzel. That’s quite a young group, but the Badgers invested in playing those younger guys, and I’d expect they want Heiberger in the picture in 2025.
We’ll see what the Badgers do, but the questions continue to stack up heading into January 2nd, when the portal officially opens.
