As the Chicago Bears prepare for their second regular season game of the year against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, the first official team injury reports for week two have been released.
The report is more extensive than last week’s relatively clean first injury report, which only featured three players. This week’s initial report has nine players on the list.
DL Neville Gallimore (illness), DL Grady Jarrett (rest), and OL Darnell Wright (knee) were all listed as DNP (did not practice) on Wednesday.
Practicing with a “limited” designation were: RB Kyle Monangai (hamstring), DB Malik Muhammad (ankle), DL Dayo Odeyingbo (shoulder), RB D’Andre Swift (ankle/knee), OL Ozzy Trapilo (knee), and DB Xavier Woods (groin).
Wright’s status of DNP is the most concerning on the list initially, so we will have to continue to follow his status throughout the week. Hopefully the team is just being overly cautious with their blue chip right tackle.
The team’s number one (Swift) and number two (Monangai) running backs being limited isn’t ideal, though at least they are practicing rather than DNP. The same goes for Muhammad, who had an outstanding outing in his first game as a pro last week.
It is encouraging to see that WR Rome Odunze is not listed on the report at all. Last week, he was listed as questionable for the team’s season opener, and eyes had been glued to his injury status all week. This week, he appears good to go.
As of press time, the Vikings have not yet publicly disclosed their injury report. We know that the team has placed RB Jordan Mason (thumb) on IR, and QB Kyler Murray (concussion) is practicing in a limited capacity as he progresses through concussion protocol.
The Bears take on the Vikings this Sunday at Soldier Field in Chicago. The game takes place at 12:00 p.m. (Chicago time) and will be broadcast on FOX.
