TCU midfielder Emma Yolinsky beat a pair of defenders before blasting a left-footed shot that bounced under the bottom half of the crossbar and into the net to give the Horned Frogs an early lead during their Big 12-Big Ten showdown against No. 9 Iowa. It was the play of the game for the TCU side, which broke a 1-1 halftime draw with a pair of goals from forward Seven Castain, who scored in the 55th and 65th minutes to help the No. 7 ranked Horned Frogs clinch a 3-2 victory over the Hawkeyes and remain
undefeated on the season. TCU (3-0) will return to action with a Big 12-SEC road matchup against the Texas Longhorns at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28.
Yolinsky gave TCU a one-goal lead during the 10th minute, dribbling past one defender, making a second defender miss and delivering a perfectly placed shot to the top half of the Iowa net. The Horned Frogs, who posted eight shots and four shots on goal in the opening half, saw their lead disappear after Iowa converted on a corner kick during the 43rd minute. Both teams finished with 15 shots in the match, with TCU recording eight shots on goal while the Hawkeyes wound up with only four. Kira Ybarra notched two saves for the Horned Frogs, who regained their lead when freshman Kamdyn Fuller sent a ball into the box, where a header from midfielder Morgan Brown found its way to Castain, who booted the ball into the Iowa goal during the 55th minute.
Castain completed her brace in the 65th minute, outdueling multiple Iowa defenders deep inside the Hawkeye box to give the Horned Frogs a 3-1 advantage. Despite a PK in the 89th minute, TCU emerged victorious and it was the 152nd career victory for head coach Eric Bell, who became the all-time winningest coach in Horned Frog soccer history. Thursday’s win was TCU’s first over a top-10 program since defeating Texas A&M in August 2021. It was also TCU’s first road win against a top-10 team since beating Oklahoma State in October 2020.
