Yesterday, per Nick Underhill, the New Orleans Saints held tryouts with four players, all of whom were offensive linemen, three of them being tackles.
Sometimes, when tryouts happen, the group can consist of all different positions, and there is really no pattern. The other times, the team will try out a specific position due to bad play, a player being cut, or… an injury. If we look at the positions, tackle is the position the Saints focused on, and William
Sherman, the one guard, has played tackle before. Keeping this in mind, remember that RT Taliese Fuaga had been dealing with a knee issue last week, so could we be hearing soon that Fuaga’s injury is now becoming a bigger issue?
Now, I’m not in the position to predict how long Fuaga is out or how bad the injury could be, but one thing was clear at the end of the 49ers game: his injury was affecting his play on the field. Late in that game, Fauga went out for a few snaps due to an injury, and it looked like it was the knee again. He came back in, but as we saw on the game-sealing fumble, Fuaga looked off and allowed the defender to get right past him. The knee has become an issue that is clear on the field, and if the Saints are trying to protect their future, pushing Fuaga out there on an injured knee is a bad idea. So, if the tryouts do actually reveal anything, the Saints may be planning not to have Taliese Fuaga in their next game.
