Former Bayern Munich exec Oliver Kahn has been reminiscing about Bavarian midfields past — specifically those featuring one Thiago Alcântara.
“The types of players in Bayern’s current midfield are very similar in their style. In my opinion, Thiago was a very important factor because he was completely different,” Kahn explained in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “His special technique, his ability to outmaneuver opponents, his exceptional passes. This type of player is currently missing. I can well
imagine that the people in charge are thinking about exactly that and that they would like to have such a type of midfielder again in the squad in the future.”
We have been having some discussion here at BFW recently about Bayern’s future midfield composition — namely, whether Bayern can and should run a 4-3-3:
If the Bavarians do make the change, and a Thiago-style artist could be the perfect complement to orchestrators like Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlović.
