After an extremely entertaining game of football, Bayern Munich left the arena with a close win over Wehen Wiesbaden. Here’s our match awards for tonight.
Jersey Swap: Fatih Kaya
Wiesbaden’s striker had a game to remember tonight. After scoring two goals to equalize with Bayern and give his club a fighting chance, Kaya definitely deserves this award. A very close runner-up, though, should go to Florian Stritzel, Wiesbaden’s goalkeeper. Stritzel made a whopping eleven saves, one of which was a penalty, and was probably the
reason the club was still in it till the very end. Nevertheless, Kaya was critical to his teams confidence in the final third, and who knows, it might have even ended with a hat-trick for him if he hadn’t been substituted.
Der Kaiser: Kim Min-jae
Bayern’s defense wasn’t exactly on point today, after some careless mistakes put their chances of progressing tournament at risk, but credit must be given where it is due. Kim put in a decent shift this game, being the rock for Bayern’s defense when his colleagues weren’t exactly doing the best. Playing the full 90 minutes, Kim managed to record three clearances. Much more impressive, however, is his incredible 97% pass rate and a 100% accuracy with long balls. It’s safe to say that out of all those lined up at Bayern’s backline, Kim Min-jae deserves this.
Fußballgott: Joshua Kimmich
The captain’s armband may seem to be working some magic on Kimmich. He put his back into the game tonight, and was all over the pitch trying to create that one critical chance that Bayern needed to break through Wiesbaden’s defence. He may not have been 100% successful doing so, but his efforts are what counts. Aleksandar Pavlović deserves a shout-out for showing up with his A-game today, as does Konrad Laimer for his last-minute attacking efforts.
Der Bomber: Michael Olise
Olise had some quite weak moments before his masterclass versus Stuttgart in the Supercup, but he more than made up for those two games today. With a very calm and collected first-time finish, Olise scored Bayern’s second goal of the night after Sacha Boey failed to finish the pass coming his way. The Frenchman also completed the most dribbles of the match. Another favorite for this award is Lennart Karl, purely out of how professionally he played today. The youngster is shaping up to be the perfect fit for Bayern’s starting XI, and it will be exciting to watch him fill that role.
Meister of the Match: Harry Kane
Who else could it be? Scoring a brace and saving the game for Bayern, Kane is most definitely the Meister of the Match. Aside from that penalty miss (which, let’s be honest, is because of some incredible goalkeeping), he was on point as a striker tonight, with six shots on point and just one off target.
Bayern Munich traveled to Frankfurt to take on SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB-Pokal.
The home side was game and did give Bayern Munich a battle. Sure, the Bavarians were deeper, quicker, stronger, and better, but the 3.Liga side was not going to go down easy in what was an entertaining match. Bayern Munich ultimately won 3-2.
