After missing Spain’s matches in the November international break due to treatment for his ongoing pubalgia issue, it appears as though Lamine Yamal will take part in Barcelona’s return to Camp Nou on Saturday’s
La Liga match against Athletic Club.
Hansi Flick spoke at a press conference on Friday and was asked about the status of his teenage superstar and said he believes Lamine will be ready to go after a few good training sessions since his treatment last week. Flick revealed Yamal still isn’t fully over the issue, but said the club’s medical staff is working hard along with the player to ensure a strong recovery.
The coach also believes missing Spain’s matches was good for Yamal, and called the two weeks dedicated to treatment and specialized training “a big step” for Lamine’s recovery.
“I think he will be able to play, he has trained very well these weeks, it is not over because he has ups and downs, but at the moment he is controlling himself well from the medical services.
“Lamine is our player and we care about him just as much as the federation does. It’s a good decision that he didn’t play the two matches for Spain because it’s been a big step for him to be able to manage that injury well.”
Lamine’s pubalgia won’t go away anytime soon, but his two most recent games for Barça showed some good progress in terms of movement and impact in the matches. If these two weeks really have been as important as Flick says, we could be seeing Yamal back to his best sooner rather than later.
