Newcastle United starts its Spanish preseason preparations with a trip to Mestalla to face Valencia, the Magpies’ first friendly in the country to the start gearing up for the new Premier League campaign starting on Aug. 23 against Liverpool.
With the result itself secondary, the focus will be on Newcastle’s performance, fitness levels, and Matthias Jaissle’s first-ever team selection. The starting XI could provide some indication of his plans for the opening weekend, while those competing for places
have their first preseason opportunity to make their case in front of the new coach.
Facing Valencia away from home should also provide Newcastle with a useful test before returning to Premier League action.
