Morning everyone! Ready for some possible eliminations?
We got treated to a couple of solid games from the American League contests yesterday evening. After suffering through a rain delay the Seattle Mariners took control of their series against the Detroit Tigers with an 8-4 victory over their AL Central foe. With a win today the M’s can secure their first trip to the American League Championship Series since the early 2000’s, when they lost to the Yankees in both 2000 and 2001 in the final round
of the AL playoffs. Seattle will be turning to right-hander Bryce Miller hoping the 3rd-year starter can push his squad to the next round. Detroit will counter with former 1st overall pick Casey Mize, hoping the top draft pick can live up to the draft status and get his team to a winner-take-all Game 5.
That’s how we start the day and it only gets better from there. After that AL matchup we turn to the National League where we’ll be treated to Game 4 of the Brewers and Cubs series. Milwaukee crushed the Cubs in their first two games on their home turf but now they’ll be tasked with taking one more in the unfriendly confines of Chicago. The Cubs have their backs up against the wall and will do everything they can to prolong their season just one more day. This pitching matchup will feature the Brewers’ Quinn Priester taking the ball for his first postseason start. Chicago counters with veteran righty Jameson Taillon, but he hasn’t had much playoff experience himself.
Back to the AL, we will be treated to Game 4 between the Blue Jays and the Yankees. New York was able to come back from a major early deficit last night to take Game 3 and extend their season but they’ll need to do it again if they want to get a chance back in Toronto. They’ll get rookie Cam Schlittler going for them in this one, hoping he can replicate or even come close to his last playoff performance, eight shutout innings against the Red Sox. Toronto will try to end this series here and now in New York, hoping to avoid going home for a potential Game 5. Their starting pitcher has yet to be announced but it could be anyone, according to Jays manager John Schneider:
We wrap up the massive day of October baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers looking to finish off the Philadelphia Phillies in three games. The Dodgers will be going with their expensive foreign investment when righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto gets the ball with the chance to send his Dodgers squad to the NLCS for the second consecutive season. The Phillies will be on full alert though and if they have anything to say about it, this series is far from over, and former ace Aaron Nola will get the chance to redeem his rough year with a season-saving performance. We’ll see what happens.
I think a couple of these series are about to wrap up today. What do you guys think? Comment and debate below! And have a great Wednesday to you all!
