Hansi Flick has had a tough few weeks at Barcelona, thanks to defeats to Sevilla and PSG, and there’s speculation all is not well behind the scenes in Catalunya.
It’s been reported by various outlets, and most recently Cadena SER, that Flick wanted to bench Lamine Yamal for the Champions League clash with PSG as he was late for a meeting but was overruled by Deco.
Yamal went on to play in the match and was subsequently ruled out through injury and missed the game against Sevilla and Spain’s World Cup
qualifiers against Georgia and Bulgaria.
As for Flick, it seems that he wasn’t happy at being overruled by Deco. He’s made a point of punishing players for being late during his tenure, but this report suggests some at Barca feel Yamal is a special case.
The report goes on to add that there is a “sense of concern” at Barcelona about Yamal’s recent behavior and they are keeping a close eye on the situation.
There’s no detail provided on what exactly is worrying Barca about Yamal, only that the club are eager to ensure he doesn’t lose focus after being thrust into the spotlight at such a young age.
