As has been rumored for a couple of days, multiple sources have reported that Coach Gainey is adding Matt Driscoll to his coaching staff. Coach Driscoll brings 20 years of head coaching experience (4 years D3 La Roche, 16 years North Florida) that should be invaluable in helping Coach Gainey transition to his first head coaching position.
Coach Driscoll’s D1 career started as an assistant at Wyoming under Larry Shyatt, he then went to Clemson with Shyatt, he was hired as an assistant at Valparaiso by Scott Drew who was hired to coach Baylor seven weeks later and took Driscoll with him. Driscoll then got his first D1 head coaching job at North Florida the year they transition to D1. During his tenure he led the Ospreys to their first every NCAA Tournament appearance, and was twice named the ASUN Coach of the Year. In 2025 he took the Associate Head Coaching position at Kansas State under coach Jerome Tang. Tang was fired late in the season and Driscoll was promoted to interim head coach for the final seven games in which he went 2-5. There are currently 7 Kansas State players listed in the transfer portal, including leading scorer PJ Haggerty.
