The Philadelphia 76ers have assigned Jared McCain to their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. He is expected to practice and suit up for Thursday night’s game against the Greensboro Swarm, the Charlotte
Hornets’ G League team.
McCain has been working his way back from multiple injuries and has struggled to find his footing. He’s 0-9 from the field over three games and has seen very limited minutes. In his most recent matchup, Nick Nurse gave him a brief first-half stint before sitting him for the rest of the game. He’s averaged 10.3 minutes per game so far this season.
This approach hasn’t produced results, prompting the move to the G League. Regular playing time should help McCain regain his rhythm, rebuild confidence, and find his shot — crucial steps toward returning to the level he showed last season.
The Sixers recently assigned rookie Johni Broome to the Delaware Blue Coats, along with two-way player Hunter Sallis. Broome sprained his ankle in his Delaware debut, but McCain is expected to get minutes alongside Sallis and other key G League players, including Kennedy Chandler, MarJon Beauchamp and Marcus Bagley.
The Delaware Blue Coats are currently 1-0 on the season and will face the Greensboro Swarm on Thursday and Saturday, with McCain expected to suit up for both games. Nurse noted that McCain will spend a few games in the G League to get back into rhythm before returning to the Sixers lineup. Fans can catch McCain’s Blue Coats debut on ESPN+ and WBOC.2 at 7 PM EST.
