The Colorado Rockies made another hire to Warren Schaeffer’s coaching staff on Friday afternoon, announcing that they have named Brett Pill as their Major League hitting coach.
Pill, 41, has spent the last six seasons in the Los Angeles Dodgers Organization. He was a minor league hitting coach from 2020-2022 before becoming their minor league hitting coordinator for the last three years. Before joining the Dodgers he served as an international scout for the Korean Baseball Organization’s Kia Tigers.
Originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants, Pill played 11 professional seasons in both the infield and outfield. He made Major League appearances in parts of the 2011-2013 seasons with the Giants, and finished his playing career with the Kia Tigers from 2014-2016.
Pill has previously worked under new Rockies general manager Josh Brynes, who was who was senior vice president of baseball operations for the Dodgers. He joins a coaching staff that has been bolstered in recent days with young, analytically minded hires from around the league.
The hire of Pill leaves the duties of Nic Wilson and Jordan Pacheco in question. President of baseball operations Paul DePodesta mentioned last week that the two—having served as interim hitting coaches in 2025—would remain with the club in some capacity.
This is a developing story and Purple Row will provide more information as it becomes available.
