As part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the 2016 World Series champions, the Cubs are going to create an arch on the western entrance to Gallagher Way, which is on the west side of Wrigley Field.
In their Community Connection newsletter sent out to folks who live in the area around Wrigley Field last week, the Cubs announced:
Work will begin Friday, May 8, to install an archway monument to memorialize the club’s 1907, 1908 and 2016 World Series championships at the western entrance to Gallagher
Way. Work on “Champions Gate” will be completed prior to the monument’s dedication ceremony on Saturday, July 18, as part of our celebration of the 10th anniversary of the 2016 World Series. During construction, pedestrian traffic in the area will be temporarily rerouted via a protected barrier walkway.
The photo at the top of this post was taken in that area Saturday, May 9, looking east from Clark Street toward the ballpark. Here’s another photo of the area where this monument will be installed, from Gallagher Way looking west:
As this is constructed, I hope to have more photos of the area, and of course we’ll cover the dedication ceremony on Saturday, July 18.
