Well, it’s official. After a few days of waiting (and hoping the Reds could at least be serious) we now know that the Los Angeles Dodgers will be coming to town tomorrow evening to take on the Phillies in the NLDS. The two teams haven’t faced each other in the postseason since 2009, with the Phillies being the victors in that series and each of the last three times the two teams met in October.
The Phillies won the 2025 season series between the two teams with a record of 4-2 despite being outscored 28-27. The last time they met was just a little over two weeks ago when the Phillies took two out of three at Dodger Stadium, clinching the NL East in the first game. That series also featured a late Phillies comeback from being down 4-0, as they scored six runs in the sixth inning and three in the ninth after Shohei Ohtani left the game despite throwing five hitless innings, as he was on a pitch count. Ohtani will start against the Phillies again tomorrow; except he will no longer be on a tight pitch limit.
It’s sure to be a heavyweight bought, as the Dodgers are the defending World Series champions and the Phillies had the second-best record in baseball in 2025. It felt odd that the Phillies hadn’t run into L.A. in this recent era of making the postseason, as the Dodgers have been one of the winningest teams in baseball over the last decade and a perennial juggernaut. The time for that collision has finally come.
We’ll discuss more of the ins and outs of the matchup here at TGP in the coming days, but for now let’s just start with pure gut-check feel: How are you feeling about the NLDS matchup?
